Dr. Roy Sugarman

Director, Applied Neuroscience

Dr. Roy Sugarman is the Director of Applied Neuroscience at Athletes' Performance. Dr. Sugarman is a clinical neuropsychologist, a clinical psychologist, and an internationally-recognized expert in optimizing brain performance. With decades of experience working with corporate and field athletes, as well as victims of brain injury, Dr. Sugarman brings an objective approach to the management of mindset. He also advises on how to use these results to improve performance.

Using state-of-the-art measures of brain output, Dr. Sugarman determines what underpins the personal and unique success of an athlete. He then advises coaches and athletes on how to optimize these skills and scaffold future performance to the maximum. Dr. Sugarman's approach doesn't rely on subjective views on behavior and personality derived from traditional toolkits, which may have untestable theory behind them. Instead, he chooses to measure how the brain responds to challenge as directly as possible.

In this way, any cognitive and emotional elements of information processing at conscious and non-conscious levels can be appreciated and dealt with. Behavioral risk factors for future career paths can also be identified and given the investment inherent in our athletes, advice on likely brain-based vulnerabilities is welcomed by both players and coaches.
